Avoid School Stress and Burnout Around the Holidays

November 4, 2022

This time of year is crazy in the stores, the malls, the restaurants, but nowhere does the craziness feel more real than inside a school or classroom! In order to keep the students calm, and save yourself from unnecessary stress, you should follow these tips for your school around the holidays.

How Can You Avoid Burnout In School Around the Holidays?

Set – And Keep – Clear Expectations

Sometimes the chaos occurs because students and teachers don’t know exactly what is expected of them in regards to behavior, participation or even attendance. What can seem simple from an administrative view can be perplexing to people who are juggling other particularly exciting commitments and celebrations. Making sure everyone in your school knows where to be, how to behave and when to have some fun this holiday season can keep things running more smoothly.

Focus on What Matters

There is no shortage of small (metaphorical) fires going off on any given school day. But with so much happening before the end of 2022, sometimes you have to focus on what matters most – between playing school fireman. Prioritize what matters most to the professionals working within your school, and what matters most for the students attending, and the “small stuff” can reveal itself as just that.

Use the Stress to Create Resolutions for 2023

The biggest stressors you are feeling at the end of 2022 should be the things that propel you into 2023. Where are your issues coming from – lack of staff? lack of resources? lack of everything?! Figure out what is causing the biggest problems inside your building now, and those things can form your school’s resolutions for the new year.

Make Sure People Are In The Right Seats

Having the right staff in the right roles is critical for mitigating chaos. Making sure teacher evaluations and expectations align with the roles they are in and the milestones students need to meet is more important around the busy holiday season than ever. If you find you have school therapists who are not meeting expectations, or if you have a need for more added to your school or your district, partnering with an industry expert like Spotter Staffing can help you place people into the correct seats quickly – so your students don’t miss a day of important sessions or strides towards their goals.
