- Mackenzie: Thanks for tuning in to another week of Meet Your Sourcing Specialist, this week we have Christian. Thanks for joining us, Christian.
- Christian: Thanks, Mackenzie, for doing this interview.
- Mackenzie: Of course, I wanted to let everyone get to meet you and learn a little bit more about you. So, the first question I always start with is: can you talk a little bit about what your role at Spotter is and kind of what you do on a day-to-day?
- Christian: Okay, sure! So, I’m a Sourcing Specialist at Spotter. My main responsibility is to search for qualified candidates so that is probably by searching job boards or other online sources or probably in our internal database so i reach out to these potential candidates and connect them to recruiters and then our recruiters will be the one to to gauge what they’re looking for and discuss further about any potential openings that we have then once they have hired i’m also tasked to to send some updates announcements or any important informations about their employment so yeah that’s a quick rundown of the job.
- Mackenzie: You’re our back-end specialist you’re doing all the hard work and the digging and helping people find those awesome jobs that we connect them to so we appreciate your guys ground support on everything When you are finding these candidates and helping schools connect with them, do you find that there are like certain skills that you can use to help them connect with them or do you find that there are certain skills or traits that schools are really looking for in all of our candidates or do you find that it varies?
- Christian: Well for me aside from um the basic qualifications like the certification educational background and experience I think schools will be gauging for someone’s commitment especially when they’re meeting with the candidates a commitment um that will be by judging i think the way they speak to too the Managers and really by showing how interested they are, how committed they are to their role in showing genuine I think care to the kids. Yeah, I know that’s some pointers that I can give.
- Mackenzie: Yeah, I know that’s our end goal is always to just help the students in Chicago and Dallas find really amazing therapists and teachers to help them get to where they need to go. So if you had any advice that you would give to someone who is maybe interested in a new teaching or therapy career, do you have any words of wisdom or any advice that you’ve learned from your career as a sourcing specialist?
- Christian: Yeah I think from a sourcing perspective the best advice if they’re looking for a new role is just to be searchable. I mean, update LinkedIn so put in your resume and Indeed, or any other job board that you prefer, and make it a point that you really talk to recruiters since they are really helpful. I mean, it’s like having a person know job search experience. So, recruiters, I think is doing their best to to match you to their opening. So rather than you having uploading your resume in random job postings, it’s better if you talk to recruiters. So yeah, that’s one of the best advice.
- Mackenzie: Yeah, I know it sometimes can feel hard to find a job or find the right job, but it’s a lot. easier to have someone bring you a great opportunity and connect you that way so that’s like that’s great advice. Alright those are all of the uh the questions about sourcing that I have for you, but the next ones are just to kind of get to show people a little bit more about who you are. So my first question to you is how do you spend a day off when you’re very rarely not working what do you do?
- Christian: I think I always say this I love to surf so I’m always at the beach if it’s the surfing season so i love surfing. If it’s not the surfing season, I paint, do some sculptures or I play bass with my band.
- Mackenzie: Oh, that’s awesome! I didn’t know you play bass. I learned something new. I know we need to get you to come to Chicago and paint a big Leo the llama mural for us.
- Christian: That would be nice, yeah.
- Mackenzie: All right, well, if you were going to plan a vacation, would it be somewhere to go surfing or would it be somewhere else?
- Christian: It is actually Oahu in Hawaii and Malibu in California, so they have the best waves for longboard, so I hope to get to be there one day.
- Mackenzie: That sounds beautiful; both of those places I would love to be there; I wouldn’t want To surf, but it would just be nice to visit. I’ll watch you guys surfing, but I’ll stay safely on land, um, okay, one last question and I’ll let you get back to work, but do you have like a personal quote that you live by or that you really find inspirational?
- Christian: Yeah, it’s actually part of a song that I heard years ago, um, it’s from Jason Rass if you if you know the artist “Everything Is Sound” is this song. It goes or it says um, ‘If it makes you want to sing just sing it” so for me it’s just yeah one way of saying that do whatever that is that makes you happy whatever makes your heart sing just do it focus all your energy on it.’
- Mackenzie: I think that’s great. I think that really applies to everybody that we work with who is really, you know, doing work that’s from the heart, that’s not just crunching numbers and things like that-they’re really having an impact on students and children, so that’s awesome. Thank you so much for all your advice, and thank you for being here, it’s great to learn a little bit more about you and thank you to anybody tuning in, thanks again.
