  • Mackenzie: Welcome to this edition of “Meet Your Sourcing Specialist!” Jessi is our first sourcing specialist that we’re introducing from Spotter, so, hi Jessi! Thanks for being with us.
  • Jessi: Thanks Mackenzie, glad to be here.
  • Mackenzie: So can you tell us a little bit about what your day is like and what a sourcing specialist at Spotter does?
  • Jessi: Yeah so anyway I have I just want to share that I’ve been with Spotter for like three years now and it’s half of my career in the staffing industry, so as a sourcing specialist mainly are my responsibilities are finding the best candidates for the jobs that we are hiring for so i basically reach out to candidates through email, sometimes I call them and send them text messages and connect with them on different social media platforms or job boards.
  • Mackenzie: Yeah, I know you found a lot of great therapists for us and great special education teachers and connected them with some really awesome opportunities. When you are meeting these candidates and when you’re connecting them, do you find that there’s anything in particular schools are really looking for when they’re hiring people? Are there any like skills or traits that are really in high demand?
  • Jessi: Yeah, absolutely. So, I mean we are mainly staffing for positions like special education teachers, school social workers, and therapists like SLPs and occupational therapists, but I think what schools are looking to meet or the candidates they’re looking to meet are those who are not just qualified and experienced but also those candidates or individuals who are committed to making positive impact on students’ lives. These individuals are you know someone who is adaptable, empathetic, and student-centered. They really value people or individuals who are really committed to making a positive impact on students’ lives. These are individuals who are who have clear passion for making or supporting diverse needs of the students that we support, and you know making and contributing to the school community in meaningful ways.
  • Mackenzie: Yeah, absolutely. I know that that’s something that we’re always looking for. And luckily for us, I mean everybody who is a speech-language pathologist or is a special education teacher for the most part is so committed to just improving the lives of the students and the children and the students that are in the school community. And so I think that’s something that we’re always looking for in the school community. And so I think that’s something that we’re fortunate to get to work with a lot of really amazing people, and we’re lucky to have you help us find them. So if you were to give any advice to somebody who’s maybe considering a career change or looking for a new opportunity, do you have any advice that you would give them?
  • Jessi: Yeah, I mean I know that every uh, I mean every individual would um decide to have a specific career goals and plans, and I think you know one of the advice that I would give to people who are in the school community is to be honest, be transparent because that way you know it’s not only they’re not only helping themselves but they’re also helping us help them find you know the best fit for them, yeah.
  • Mackenzie: That’s a great piece of advice, I know it’s it’s sometimes a different path that takes you where you want to go or some people who start in one industry might end up in another industry so knowing what you’re looking for is the best way to kind of find your way there. Well thank you, that’s awesome advice, I really appreciate it. Our last couple of questions are just so people can get to know you a little bit better, so, if you had to pick what your favorite movie is, what would you say your favorite movie is?
  • Jessi: I mean I love a lot of movies but whenever I’m asked this question the first thing that comes to mind would be the movie “Unbroken”, it’s by Jack O’Connell, I think. It was directed by Angelina Jolie… it’s just, you know, the sheer resilience and the entire plot of the story is just very inspiring, and I mean, I couldn’t it’s just whenever I feel like I need some inspiration and some you know something to push me through, I would look back and watch that movie because it’s very inspiring.
  • Mackenzie: That’s awesome! I like that answer. Is your favorite song inspiring too or is it just a fun song?
  • Jessi: I think they’re both fun and inspiring… whenever you know I’m kind of feeling low, I would… I don’t really understand the entire song. of Danza Kuduro but I really like it and I dance to it um and you know some the one that um would you know hype me up is Try Everything by Shakira and you know aside from it being a Shakira song it was also the soundtrack of you know a fun movie Zootopia which i really like as well because it’s you know the kid in me.
  • Mackenzie: Yeah that’s great I love that. Alright we’ll give you one last question and let you get back to work because I know you’re very busy but if you could have any dream vacation or go anywhere what would it be?
  • Jessi: I remember when I was younger you know I want to go and visit you know, different places. But one that I think I’m frustrated about is, you know, visiting Amsterdam mainly because of Tomorrowland festival, so I want to get to experience that festival. You know, I know Amsterdam, that I mean, Netherlands is a great country!
  • Mackenzie: That would be a really cool place to visit, I’d love to see the tulips there. I’ve never been there but awesome! Well, thank you for all your great advice, thanks for giving us a little bit of an insight into who you are and if you get a call or a text from Jessi, make sure you answer it because she’s probably trying to connect you with a great opportunity. So thanks so much Jessi, and thanks everybody for tuning in.
