- Mackenzie: Thanks for joining this edition of Meet Your Sourcing Specialist, this week we have Visnu with us. Thanks for joining, Visnu.
- Visnu: Thank you, Mackenzie.
- Mackenzie: Well, it’s a pleasure to spend time with you this afternoon. We just wanted to get everybody introduced to you, to learn a little bit more about what you do for Spotter and learn a little bit more about who you are. So the first question I always ask is just to kind of uh tell us a little bit more about what you do for Spotter and what your role as a Sourcing Specialist is.
- Visnu: Of course. Well, I’m a Sourcing Specialist at Spotter Staffing, so I focus on finding and screening qualified school therapists, such as SLPs, social workers, OTs, physical therapists, and special education teachers, to fill contract roles in a school setting. So, I balance a mix of proactive outreach to new candidates and follow-ups on ongoing prospects. I also spend time reviewing resumes. I’m coordinating with my senior recruiter Ronda on-site manager back for a smooth recruitment process.
- Mackenzie: Yeah, that’s awesome! I know you do a great job at helping connect some therapists and special education teachers to our recruiters so that they can find really good career opportunities. So, when you are meeting those candidates Or you’re speaking to them, do you find that there’s a lot of personality traits or skills that schools are looking for, that you’re looking for, when you meet people, or is it different for everyone? What do you kind of see there?
- Visnu: Oh yeah uh definitely so I think schools would be would usually be looking for candidates who have strong communication skills and patience and empathy, as well as collaborative mindset and most especially they would also be looking for specialized skills and handling diverse student needs.
- Mackenzie: Yeah, I know it’s it’s hard to define the skills that really make a therapist or a special education teacher, who they are because there’s so much that goes into those roles day-to-day but you guys do a great job at really finding those great people that the schools are looking for. If you had to give somebody who was looking for a new job any advice, what would you tell them? Is there anything that they can do to really find those great positions that schools have?
- Visnu: Yeah, definitely uh well firstly of course um they need to make sure that their licenses are up-to-date, especially the PL and um LBS1s, specifically for special education teachers. Secondly they need to tailor their resume to emphasize their specific experience. In the school settings and most especially, most importantly, they need to promote their adaptability and collaboration because schools would want candidates who can work well with multi-disciplinary teams like teachers, parents, and administrators to create a supportive learning environment for the students, and of course, showing your passion for working with students and welcoming them, and yeah, I think in the future, I hope that would be a big segment is something that would really set them apart.
- Mackenzie: Yeah, I think that’s great advice. And at Spotter, we do have people who help with resumes. We have our community outreach coordinator who will do a resume review with you if you’re looking for a job, but you’re not sure you need a hand. We always have more people on our team who are here to help you too. So that’s some great advice and a little bit of a plug for Spotter that we have people who at no charge are always willing to help you find that job, even if it’s not through us. So thank you for that, Visnu. That’s great advice. Now I have a couple questions about you so that people can learn a little bit more about you. So my first question to you is, if you were planning a dream vacation and could go anywhere, where would it be?
- Visnu: Well, if I could go anywhere, first, I would love to go with my daughter. I would really love to bring her. And that I think would be one of my bucket lists, which is Bacanis. So Bacanis is actually one of the most promising islands in the Philippines. It’s known for its breathtaking landscapes and great atmosphere. So for so long, that’s one of my bucket lists. And I think it would be meaningful if I do it with my daughter.
- Mackenzie: Yeah, I think that’s a great idea. I’ve never heard of that before, but it sounds beautiful. And I’m going to look it up and add it to my list of vacation spots. Okay, so if you were going to do karaoke, maybe on this island, what would your go-to karaoke song be?
- Visnu: I always do karaoke, but I love singing anything by Adele. Her songs are soulful and they give me a chance to express myself through music.
- Mackenzie: That’s awesome. We’re going to have to have a spotter karaoke party sometime. I want to hear you guys sing. I’m sure you’re all incredible at it. I can’t wait to hear. All right, one last question and then I’ll let you get back to work because I know you’re busy. I’m going to let you get back to work quickly. But my last question would be, what animal best matches your personality if you had to pick one?
- Visnu: Oh, well, I would say a cat really matches my personality because they’re pretty independent and they like to explore things at their own pace, which is somehow something that I do with my work. So I’m curious and always looking for new things or new ways to learn things. And they also appreciate some quiet time for myself.
- Mackenzie: I get that. I totally understand what that feels like. I have a house filled with dog noise, so I get the quiet. Quiet would be nice. Thank you for joining us. Thanks for telling us a little bit about what you do and who you are. It was great to let everyone learn a little bit more about you, Visnu, and thank you to anyone tuning in and watching. We appreciate it and we’ll be back with more Meet Your Spotter People. Thank you so much, Visnu.
