Spotter Staffing Reflects on Fantastic Experiences at the ISHA 2025 Annual Convention

February 13, 2025

The Illinois Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ISHA) 2025 Annual Convention is an opportunity for speech-language pathologists (SLPs), audiologists, and students to exchange insights, explore new strategies, and collaborate on advancing the field of speech-language pathology and audiology. Once again, the Spotter Staffing team was on-hand for this incredible event.

Spotter Staffing team members Dawn Callahan Dennis, Derek Carroll, Janelle Malisheski, Jessica Rabban, and Rhonda Gumbel-Thomas spent time connecting with dedicated professionals and students, sharing expertise, and engaging with the community.

As the team reported, the energy and passion of the ISHA community were inspiring, fueling new ideas and reinforcing our commitment to supporting SLPs, therapists, and students.

Connecting with Speech-Language Professionals and Students

We are so grateful to everyone who took the time to engage with us at the convention. Our team members were thrilled to connect with a community deeply committed to advancing the field of speech pathology.

One of the biggest thrills for the team was the opportunity to engaged in conversations about career development, resume building, continuing education, and the evolving needs of the profession, all things that the Spotter Staffing experts live and breathe daily.

The positive exchanges and shared dedication to professional growth left our team even more motivated to support SLPs, therapists, and students as they continue to shape the future of speech-language pathology and audiology in Illinois.

Insights Gained from ISHA 2025

One member of the Spotter Staffing team, Jessica Rabban, shared these thoughts:

“ISHA 2025 was a great place for students to get career advice! A lot of them had questions about how the staffing process works, contract styles, and, after Dawn’s talk, resume reviews. On Friday, resumes were a hot topic—what to put on them, what stands out, and how to make them stronger. There was also a lot of interest in more workshops and resources to help them get started in their careers.”

Rhonda Gumbel-Thomas shared her expert insights, as well:

“At ISHA 2025, most of the full-time SLPs were there for their CEUs, while students had lots of questions about the job process—some were gearing up for graduation in May or June, while others were just starting out. A big topic at the convention was the lack of diversity, both in attendees and in the seminars, especially when it came to working with children from different backgrounds. Students really enjoyed Dawn’s resume presentation and had a great time at the College Bowl, while other SLPs focused on sessions relevant to their work settings, like schools, medical, and early intervention.”
