Built to Support Those Who Serve Diverse Learners.
After successful corporate careers, lifelong friends Ryan Cleaveland and Ryan Allen founded Spotter Staffing to transform the staffing industry—making it easier for school-based therapists to thrive by removing financial and professional roadblocks.
After nearly two decades in staffing, Ryan Cleaveland left his cushy corporate job to embrace a new challenge—starting his own business. At the same time, his best friend from college, Ryan Allen had left advertising, earned his law degree, passed the bar, and begun handling business development for a law firm. As they tell it, Ryan Allen had just begun his new career and he and his wife had just had twins, which grew their family to five.
That’s when his best friend told him he had an idea to disrupt the staffing industry and suggested they do it together.
And so they did. The Ryans, as they’re called—or RC and RA—set out to find a way to provide staffing for a highly ethical, selfless industry…and found that with school-based therapists.
They found on-the-job responsibilities, rising university costs, and continuing education were crippling therapists, preventing them from what they do best—support the needs of children.
Spotter Staffing is built around helping them relieve some of those pressures and providing an easy way to prioritize their career needs.
I co-founded Spotter with Ryan Allen because we wanted to create a company that made a real difference—not just for us, but for educators, schools, and kids.
As one of Spotter’s co-founders, I’ve had the privilege of helping build the company from the ground up.

I was born and raised in Chicago and spend my free time strolling the lakefront and stopping by Portillo’s for a hot dog (or two).
I was introduced to Spotter through a friend and immediately connected with the mission to serve students in special education.
I came to Spotter looking for a place where I could grow in staffing while making a meaningful difference. After a conversation with Ryan, I knew this was the right fit.
I had known Ryan Cleaveland for years before joining Spotter, and my personal passion for supporting children with special needs drew me back into staffing.
I came to Spotter after a friend introduced me to Ryan Cleaveland for what I thought would be a casual networking chat—it turned into a job offer within two weeks!
I first met Ryan and Ryan at an Illinois School-Based Staffing Convention just before the world shut down for COVID. We kept in touch, and I quickly connected with their vision for school-based services.
Before Spotter, I worked in nurse recruitment but found myself drawn to education staffing because of how meaningful it felt to support teachers and therapists.
A close friend recommended Spotter to me, and it turned out to be exactly what I was looking for—an opportunity to work remotely with a supportive and collaborative team.
My best friend, a former Spotter teammate, referred me to the company when I was looking for a remote role so I could move closer to my mom. It turned out to be the perfect decision.
With a background in staffing, I was encouraged by a friend to join Spotter—and I immediately saw the impact this work has on students and schools. read more...
