Skills Needed on Day One

• Illinois PEL with School Social Worker endorsement

• Strong ability to support a wide range of learning, behavioral, and emotional disabilities

• Skilled in emotional regulation, behavior management, and student advocacy

• Team player who collaborates effectively with teachers, aides, and service providers

What to Expect Your First Day

You’ll start by meeting key staff and service partners, reviewing IEPs, and familiarizing yourself with systems, students, and daily schedules. The district provides a structured onboarding process to help you get comfortable quickly and begin making an impact from day one.

A Typical Day

• Provide 1:1 and small-group support to students with emotional disturbance (ED) and behavioral disorder (BD) needs

• Focus on developing emotional regulation, coping skills, and conflict resolution strategies

• Offer classroom support to assist with proactive behavior strategies and de-escalation

• Collaborate regularly with teachers and support staff to promote positive classroom climates and individualized interventions
