Join Spotter, one of the fastest-growing special education staffing firms in the country as recognized by INC Magazine Top 5000 in 2024 and 2025.  Step into a role that is more than another teaching position—it’s a chance to grow your career, make an impact, and be part of a high-performing, collaborative team.

Position Overview

We are seeking a Special Education Resource Teacher to support students who learn best with targeted instruction in reading, math, writing, executive functioning, and behavior. This school is located in a tougher area of the county, but the students and staff are well-intended, dedicated, and committed to doing what’s right for kids. The school is staffed with a strong crew of 8 Special Education Teachers and 10 Paraprofessionals in addition to other related services staff.

You will not be alone—you’ll be part of a capable team working to move the school forward every day.

Your primary role will be to provide pull-out and push-in resource services, support general education teachers, and manage key IEP responsibilities. For the right educator, this position offers influence both inside the school and across Spotter’s growing Lake County team.

Why This Role Is Different

Beyond classroom responsibilities, you will have opportunities for additional compensated work supporting Spotter’s Lake County team—building systems, mentoring others, strengthening community relationships, or supporting strategic initiatives.

You’ll join a team of high performers who:

  • Want to get better every day
  • Share information and collaborate
  • Work hard, enjoy what they do, and make an impact
  • Care deeply about high standards and doing things the right way

This is not just a job, it’s a career-building opportunity.

Key Responsibilities

Instruction & Daily Work

  • Provide small-group and 1:1 instruction in reading, math, writing, and executive functioning.
  • Deliver services using both pull-out and push-in models.
  • Modify assignments, adapt curriculum, and support accommodations in general education settings.
  • Develop targeted lessons aligned to student IEP goals.

IEP & Compliance

  • Manage IEP responsibilities, including progress data, goal writing, and parent communication.
  • Serve as a case manager for assigned students when needed.
  • Participate in or lead IEP meetings.
  • Maintain accurate documentation within the school’s IEP system.

Collaboration & Team Support

  • Work closely with general education teachers to support students in inclusive settings.
  • Problem-solve academic and behavioral needs with the school’s SPED team.
  • Collaborate with Spotter’s Lake County team for additional compensated work (mentoring, systems building, networking, etc.).

Student Support & Environment

  • Build strong, supportive relationships with students who may require extra encouragement.
  • Implement behavioral strategies and support plans as needed.
  • Maintain a safe, structured, and positive learning environment.

What We’re Looking For

  • A teacher who thrives in high-need environments and sees challenges as opportunities to make a true difference.
  • Someone who wants to grow, stretch their skillset, and take on leadership-style opportunities.
  • A collaborative, high-performance mindset—sharing ideas, learning from others, and improving daily.
  • Strong communication skills and comfort supporting diverse learning needs.
  • Valid Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) with LBS1 endorsement, or eligibility.
