LBS1 Special Education Teacher
Therapeutic Day School | Immediate Start

Position Overview
We are seeking a licensed LBS1 Special Education Teacher to join a small, well-resourced therapeutic day school serving students with a wide range of learning, social-emotional, and developmental needs. This position starts immediately, continues through the end of the school year on June 3, resumes for summer school on June 15, and runs through August 7.

Schedule & Calendar
– Standard hours: 8:30 AM – 3:00 PM
– Student hours: 9:00 AM – 2:00 PM
– Tuesdays & Thursdays: Staff remain until 4:00 PM for IEP meetings

Non-student time is dedicated to:
– Lesson planning and prep
– Collaboration with clinical staff
– Documentation and IEP work


Student Population & Setting

Current enrollment: 14 students
Maximum enrollment: 18 students

Grade ranges:
– 3 students: Kindergarten–4th grade
– 5 students: 4th–8th grade
– 6 students: High school

Instructional model:
– 1:1 instruction and small groups
– Teachers and paraprofessionals rotate with students (no single-student assignment all day)

Students present with a variety of needs, including:
– Autism Spectrum Disorder
– Learning disabilities
– Social/emotional challenges
– Effects of bullying and delayed emotional maturity

2 Special Education Teachers (one serves as Academic Director)
8 Paraprofessionals
2 Speech-Language Pathologists
1 Part-Time Occupational Therapist
1 Social Worker

In-house Safety-Care Instructor providing training every few months

Physical management is rare and infrequent. Ongoing training and support are provided.

Responsibilities

– Deliver individualized and small-group instruction aligned with IEP goals
– Collaborate closely with paraprofessionals and related service providers
– Participate in IEP meetings and progress monitoring
– Complete required documentation and data tracking
– Support students’ academic, behavioral, and social-emotional development
– Maintain a safe, structured, and supportive learning environment

Qualifications
– Valid Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL)
– LBS1 Endorsement (required)
– Experience in therapeutic or special education settings preferred
– Strong collaboration and communication skills


Compensation
– $52–$55 per hour, based on experience
