Junior High School Social Worker
Location: Well-resourced, high-performing junior high school in an affluent community
Start Date: February 2026 through the end of the school year; possibly ESY
Schedule: 8:30 AM – 3:30 PM | 35 hours/week | 30-minute unpaid, duty-free lunch
Pay: Up to $60/hour
We are seeking an experienced, student-centered School Social Worker for a short-term contract at a high-achieving junior high school known for strong academics, proactive student support, and strong family engagement. This role will step into an established, well-structured system and provide daily services focused on student social-emotional development, well-being, and advocacy.
The caseload includes approximately 39 students, most receiving 30 minutes of direct service per week, with some students requiring additional time and others receiving consult-only support. A small number of students are due for re-evaluation; the team will review these together and determine how to approach components such as the social developmental history update and related requirements.
The school maintains a detailed spreadsheet outlining all students, their goals, service minutes, and the current service schedule, allowing for a smooth transition and clear visibility into responsibilities.
Core Responsibilities
- Provide individual social work services addressing social, emotional, behavioral, and school-related needs
- Lead and support small group sessions as appropriate
- Support students with IEPs and 504 plans, including participation in meetings and documentation as needed
- Deliver services aligned with student goals and service minutes
- Collaborate on upcoming re-evaluations, including social developmental history updates and required documentation
- Communicate regularly with parents, teachers, administrators, and support staff
- Respond to student concerns and crisis situations following school protocols
- Maintain accurate documentation and case notes in compliance with school and state requirements
- Support a positive school culture and overall student well-being
