Special Education Teacher – Extended School Year (ESY)

Pay: $50-$55 an hour
Dates: June 8th – July 2nd
Schedule: Monday – Thursday; 7:45 AM – 12:00 PM


Overview

Join a focused summer program designed to support students with IEPs in maintaining critical academic, behavioral, and communication skills. This role is centered on consistency, structure, and relationship-building to prevent regression and set students up for success heading into the next school year.


What You’ll Do

  • Deliver small-group and individualized instruction aligned to IEP goals
  • Reinforce foundational skills in reading, math, writing, and communication
  • Implement behavior intervention plans and maintain structured routines
  • Support students with transitions, engagement, and regulation
  • Collaborate with related service providers (OT, SLP, Social Work)
  • Track and document student progress toward maintaining key skills

What a Typical Day Looks Like

  • Structured morning routines and check-ins
  • Small-group instruction targeting IEP goals
  • Built-in breaks and transition support
  • Collaboration with support staff
  • Ongoing reinforcement of behavior and communication strategies

What Success Looks Like

  • Students maintain key academic and behavioral skills over the summer
  • Strong classroom structure with minimal disruptions
  • Positive, consistent relationships with students and staff

Qualifications

  • Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) with LBS1 or equivalent
  • Experience working with students with IEPs (elementary preferred)
  • Strong classroom management and behavior support skills
  • Ability to deliver clear, structured instruction in a small-group setting
