Special Education Teacher – Extended School Year (ESY)
Pay: $50-$55 an hour
Dates: June 8th – July 2nd
Schedule: Monday – Thursday; 7:45 AM – 12:00 PM
Overview
Join a focused summer program designed to support students with IEPs in maintaining critical academic, behavioral, and communication skills. This role is centered on consistency, structure, and relationship-building to prevent regression and set students up for success heading into the next school year.
What You’ll Do
- Deliver small-group and individualized instruction aligned to IEP goals
- Reinforce foundational skills in reading, math, writing, and communication
- Implement behavior intervention plans and maintain structured routines
- Support students with transitions, engagement, and regulation
- Collaborate with related service providers (OT, SLP, Social Work)
- Track and document student progress toward maintaining key skills
What a Typical Day Looks Like
- Structured morning routines and check-ins
- Small-group instruction targeting IEP goals
- Built-in breaks and transition support
- Collaboration with support staff
- Ongoing reinforcement of behavior and communication strategies
What Success Looks Like
- Students maintain key academic and behavioral skills over the summer
- Strong classroom structure with minimal disruptions
- Positive, consistent relationships with students and staff
Qualifications
- Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) with LBS1 or equivalent
- Experience working with students with IEPs (elementary preferred)
- Strong classroom management and behavior support skills
- Ability to deliver clear, structured instruction in a small-group setting
