Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) – School-Based Location: Lake Villa, IL Hours: 7:30 AM – 3:30 PM | Full-Time | Contract-to-Hire | Up to $60 an hour

About the Opportunity

Spotter Staffing is partnering with a well-established suburban high school district in Lake County, Illinois to place a school-based BCBA. This is a two-building district serving roughly 2,600 high school students (grades 9–12) across campuses located just minutes apart. The district has a strong, collaborative special education team including an on-site RBT, experienced special education teachers, and a seasoned Director of Student Services who has grown within the district and is deeply invested in its staff and students.

This role is not a desk job. The right person will embed themselves into the fabric of the school community — building trust with students, staff, and families — and become a genuine resource across both buildings.

Primary Responsibilities

1. Truancy & School Refusal Reduction

  • Conduct functional assessments to identify the behavioral drivers behind truancy and school refusal
  • Develop and implement individualized intervention plans targeting attendance barriers
  • Collaborate with school counselors, social workers, and administration to support re-engagement strategies
  • Track and analyze attendance data to measure intervention effectiveness and adjust as needed

2. Behavior Support for Special Education Staff

  • Consult and co-plan with special education teachers and related service providers on students with behavioral challenges
  • Conduct FBAs and develop BIPs in compliance with IDEA and Illinois state guidelines
  • Provide coaching, modeling, and in-the-moment support to staff on behavior intervention strategies
  • Supervise and collaborate with the district's on-site RBT to ensure consistent implementation of behavior programs
  • Support IEP teams with behavioral data, progress monitoring, and goal development

What You'll Need

  • Current BCBA certification in good standing (BACB)
  • Illinois licensure or eligibility (LBS1 or relevant state credential as applicable)
  • Experience working in a school-based setting, high school preferred
  • Strong working knowledge of FBA/BIP processes, ABA principles, and IDEA compliance
  • Experience with school refusal and attendance-related behaviors is a significant plus

Who Thrives in This Role

  • Ownership mentality — you don't wait to be told what needs to happen; you identify it and act
  • Community builder — you show up, learn names, attend events, and become part of the school's culture, not just a contractor passing through
  • Collaborative partner — special ed teachers and related service providers see you as a resource, not an outsider evaluating their work
  • Data-driven and practical — you know how to balance clinical rigor with real-world school constraints

About the District

This is a grades 9–12 only district — no elementary, no middle school. Both high schools are suburban campuses located in northern Lake County, roughly halfway between Chicago and Milwaukee. The district serves a diverse community across four Lake County communities and has a strong academic track record, with AP participation rates above 50% and consistent rankings among top Illinois high schools. The special education department is stable and led by a Director of Student Services who has been with the district for years and is well-respected by staff. You'll be stepping into a team that is ready to grow, not one in crisis.
