Instructional Resource Teacher (IRT) — Contract to Hire Location: Gurnee, IL Pay: $51–$56/hr | Schedule: 8:30 AM – 3:20 PM | Start Date: August 2026

About the School & District

This position is based within a PreK–8 public school district in northern Lake County, Illinois, serving the communities of Gurnee, Wadsworth, Waukegan, and Park City. The school specifically serves Preschool through 2nd grade — a tightly focused early childhood environment with a strong community feel and a supportive learning community where students grow, achieve, and build confidence every day. The Opportunity

This is a well-established IRT classroom with a solid foundation — a strong teacher closed out the school year, a structured daily schedule is already in place, and the incoming teacher steps in with the groundwork done. Your job is to build on it, not start from scratch.

You will manage a caseload of approximately 15 students (PreK–2) with IEPs that include Autism and behavioral support needs. Students rotate in and out of your resource room on a set schedule. This is a contract-to-hire position, meaning strong performance leads to a permanent offer.

What You'll Do

  • Deliver direct, intentional instruction to students in a resource room setting
  • Implement and monitor IEP goals with consistent, accurate data collection
  • Manage and direct paraprofessionals effectively in your classroom
  • Communicate proactively and professionally with parents and administrators
  • Collaborate with general education teachers on student progress and support strategies
  • Apply behavioral strategies and positive support frameworks for students with Autism and related needs

What We're Looking For

  • Valid Illinois Special Education teaching license (LBS1 preferred)
  • Experience working with students with Autism and behavioral profiles
  • Strong data tracking skills — you document progress and use it to drive instruction
  • Proven ability to lead and direct paras
  • A communicator — clear, consistent, and professional with families and admin
  • Someone who actually teaches — not a babysitter, a teacher
