School Social Worker – (Elementary & Junior High)
Location: Near Barrington, Illinois Start Date: August 17, 2026 | 2026–2027 School Year Pay Rate: $50–$55/hour Employment Type: Contract to Hire


Position Overview

We are seeking a licensed School Social Worker to serve students across two school buildings located within a quarter mile of each other — an elementary school (K–5) and a junior high (6–8). This role focuses on providing push-in, integrated services to approximately 30 students in self-contained classrooms. Students present with severe autism and/or multiple co-occurring disabilities, have limited to no verbal communication, and require meaningful support in life skills development.


Responsibilities

  • Deliver push-in social work services in self-contained special education classrooms across both buildings
  • Support students with life skills, social-emotional development, and IEP goals
  • Collaborate with special education staff, teachers, and related service providers
  • Participate in IEP meetings, evaluations, and team planning
  • Maintain accurate documentation and comply with state and district requirements
  • Build positive relationships with students, families, and school teams

Requirements

  • Active Illinois School Social Worker License
  • Active Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL)
  • Experience working with low-incidence populations (severe autism, multiple disabilities, etc.)
  • Comfort and confidence working with students who exhibit behavioral needs
  • Strong collaboration and communication skills

Schedule

  • Elementary: 8:00 AM – 3:30 PM
  • Junior High: 7:30 AM – 3:00 PM
  • Some schedule flexibility available; candidate will coordinate across both buildings daily

This position reports within a special education program led by an Assistant Superintendent who brings deep school and leadership experience, is a published author, a U.S. Navy veteran, and a strong advocate for collaborative, team-based practice. She is actively involved in the special education program and is committed to providing training, coaching, and mentorship to the right candidate. This is an excellent opportunity for a social worker who wants to grow professionally under strong, invested leadership.


After Year 1

The successful candidate will have the option to continue as a contract employee or convert directly to a full-time district position.
