About the Role
Spotter Staffing is seeking a dedicated and skilled Special Education Teacher to join a collaborative and well-resourced middle school team for the 2026–2027 school year. This instructional position serves students with Specific Learning Disabilities (SLD) in a blended model that includes both self-contained and resource room settings throughout the school day. The ideal candidate is passionate about empowering students with learning differences, skilled in differentiated instruction, and comfortable working within a multidisciplinary team.
You will join a special education department of five teachers supported by an onsite Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP), Social Worker, and a full complement of related services staff — providing a strong collaborative environment for student success.
Key Responsibilities
Instruction & Classroom
- Deliver structured, evidence-based instruction in ELA and/or math within both self-contained and resource room settings for students with SLD.
- Implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), ensuring all accommodations, modifications, and supports are applied consistently.
- Use multi-sensory and differentiated instructional strategies (e.g., Orton-Gillingham, structured literacy, explicit instruction) tailored to SLD learners.
- Monitor and document student progress toward IEP goals using data-driven methods; adjust instruction accordingly.
- Maintain a structured, predictable, and supportive classroom environment that promotes engagement and learning for students with learning disabilities.
Collaboration & Case Management
- Develop, write, and facilitate annual IEP meetings in compliance with IDEA and Illinois state guidelines.
- Collaborate daily with general education teachers to support students in the least restrictive environment (LRE).
- Partner with the onsite SLP, Social Worker, and other related services staff to align services and supports for each student.
- Communicate regularly and effectively with parents and guardians regarding student progress, IEP goals, and school events.
- Coordinate with co-teachers and paraprofessionals to maximize instructional effectiveness.
Documentation & Compliance
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date special education records, progress notes, and IEP documentation in compliance with federal and state law.
- Complete all required paperwork within mandated timelines.
- Participate in building-level professional development and special education department meetings.
Requirements
- Valid Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) with a Learning Behavior Specialist I (LBS1) endorsement (required).
- Experience working with students with Specific Learning Disabilities at the middle school level preferred.
- Demonstrated knowledge of evidence-based reading and math intervention strategies for students with SLD.
- Proficiency in writing, implementing, and monitoring IEPs.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage caseload documentation and timelines.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with students, families, and multidisciplinary team members.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a larger special education team.
