Part-Time School Social Worker

Position Overview

We're seeking a Part-Time School Social Worker to join an elementary school (K-5) near Zion, IL, supporting a full-time Social Worker already on staff. This role is being created to relieve caseload pressure on the current Social Worker so every student gets the support they need.

This position serves students in both instructional and self-contained classrooms. Caseload will be built collaboratively with the full-time Social Worker to match the part-time SW's abilities and interests.

Start Date: Immediate
Duration: Remainder of the current school year
Hours: 17.5 hours per week
Pay: Up to $55/hour, based on experience
Location: Near Zion, IL

Key Responsibilities

• Provide direct social-emotional support to elementary students (K-5) in instructional and self-contained classrooms
• Partner with the full-time School Social Worker to divide and manage a shared caseload based on student needs and each SW's strengths
• Deliver individual and small-group counseling sessions
• Support students' IEP/behavior goals in coordination with special education staff and classroom teachers
• Assist with crisis intervention and de-escalation as needed
• Maintain accurate, timely documentation of services provided
• Communicate regularly with teachers, parents/guardians, and the school team regarding student progress
• Participate in IEP meetings and team meetings as applicable to assigned caseload

Qualifications

• Master's degree in Social Work (MSW) from an accredited program
• Valid Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) with School Social Worker endorsement
• Experience working with elementary-age students preferred; experience with special education populations (instructional and self-contained settings) a plus
• Strong communication and collaboration skills — this role works closely with an existing full-time Social Worker as a true teammate
• Ability to manage a caseload independently while staying aligned with the broader team's goals
• Reliable, flexible, and comfortable starting quickly given the immediate need

Schedule 

Hours: 17.5 hours per week. Schedule is flexible — candidate may choose:

• Five mornings per week, covering the first half of the school day, OR
• Two full days plus one half day per week
